Perpetual weekenders

Now that classes are basically done, we decided to take a little trip to South Florida to see our family members. I'm very excited, because I grew up down there and have not been down in a while. We are bringing the puppas with us, which should turn it into more of an adventure!

Stuff we bought!

Today at the market, we went a little wild :P I got enough green beans and mushrooms to last me through the apocalypse and some super cute little tiger zucchinis. I also got some assorted squash, all of this freshness for the Pioneer Woman's veggie lasagna, which I am super excited to cook. Erica got some cute little baby eggplants we will figure out some dish for and some great smelling Malawi coffee from Z-Coffee stand, which was gracious enough to give us a cup of 100% Kona coffee... Talk about tasty coffee! We got lunch at Croissant Gourmet, and we got some pastries to-go for later today :) We finished our trek at The Wine Room, and got the help of David who was more then willing to help us wine noobs out with finding a great wine fit for the lasagna night. We are definitely going to make it out there more often!

Our stash from left to right: mushrooms (which were so hard to find!), baby eggplant, squash and tiger zucchini, green beans, candied ginger (I'm going to make some amazing scones with those this week!), our fancy wine and coffee!

Croissant Gourmet's bear paw and classic croissant.

Turkey and swiss sandwich on a classic croissant :D YUM!

p.s. We are watching our friend Ian's munchkin Frodo, a little Chorkie (Chihuahua- Yorkie) who drives Zeke crazy. Poor Zeke, only a few more days of being not an only puppy!

Winter Park Farmers Market

Tomorrow morning we're headed to the Winter Park Farmers Market! We have our eyes and hearts set on some tasty and beautiful eggplants, mushrooms and squash they've got out for sale :) I'm planning on making The Pioneer Woman's veggie lasagna on Sunday. I've also got a few other tasty dishes I need some fresh veggies for. I'm also craving some of "Croissant Gourmet"'s croissants. So buttery and flaky and yummy. Also, picking up a bottle of good wine to go with the veggie lasagna, I'm thinking a white but I will ask the people at The Wine Room for their suggestions. I'll post pictures of our finds tomorrow afternoon after a long day of running around Orlando like crazy people!

Never ending

papers for classes. The weeks preceding finals week in spring semester are brutal, the weather is so nice and hot, and I am just so lazy and want to tan and go swimming :) I cannot wait for it to be May 9th so I can be on a plane to New York for a much needed vacation! So much to do, so little time (and nobody to blame but myself).

Om Nom Nom

On some BBQ sliders. From left to right: brisket, pulled chicken, burnt ends. So amazing. The guy even put some slaw, pickles and jalapenos on to make them even more fantastic. Their potato salad is also one of the best I have ever had, and that mac-n-cheese was so creamy and cheesy and delicious, I am so glad I have left overs for lunch today! So without further a-do, heres the gloriousness in picture form!

Making our way

over to our favorite BBQ place, 4Rivers, in Winter Park. Not only do they have the best smoked meats, but the best fried pickles and baked beans ever. They also have my all time favorite soda, Dublin Dr.Pepper, like omg best. thing. ever. It is made with pure cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup (blech!) making it super sweet. :D yummy! We also love it because we get to bring the little stinkers with us, because like all of Winter Park, it is dog friendly! I'll post later with a few pictures of the deliciousness that is 4Rivers, after the food coma that is..

p.s. can't wait for Saturday's market day, I have a great veggie lasagna I want to make and I am calling first dibs on those baby eggplants and giant mushrooms :P

"Lets

start up a spoken word band."

Let them begin...!

Overkill, almost...

This is Mr. Dorito Paws himself, Zeke (no middle name cause "dogs don't need middle names") Krull. An easy explanation is well, his paws and sometimes his whole body, smells like Doritos. Literally like a person dipped him in Dorito scented doggy cologne. It is gross, yet strangely comforting. So here he is.. Zeke!

Hes a Shih-Tzu ("no hes not a Shih-Tzu!".."uh, yeah he is") that I rescued from Florida Little Dog Rescue. And he is a total sassafras who runs our house like a little king. He has a crazy snaggle tooth sometimes and will look at you like he is the saddest puppy in the world, although he has everything a dog can ask for. We love him, he loves squirrels and napping, so it is a perfect relationship :P

Also, today

I got on a Club sandwich kick and decided to whip some up (if you can call toasting bread and cooking bacon whipping) and made some awesome club sandwiches. They were giant and pretty. Then we devoured them on our back porch in the gorgeous Florida sunshine and heat. By the way, the best Clubs have fresh avocado and lots of mayo on them.

p.s. anyone know if Club is supposed to be capitalized? Or am I being a crazy person?

"Contents" :
6 slices of bread (your choice) toasted
a little >1/3 lb. thin thin thin sliced ham
a little >1/3 lb. thin sliced turkey
5 strips of bacon
small handful of baby spinach (washed)
5 tbsp. fat free mayo
1 small avocado (fresh) sliced

Steps to construction of glorious sandwich:
-start cooking the bacon (follow package instructions) so you can assemble the other things while it is cooking.. when it is crispy, place it on a plate with a few paper towels to absorb the grease
(I also cut the bacon slices in half, so they fit on the sandwich without spilling over the edges... I'm OCD like that)
-toast the bread
-slice avocado into strips
-wash spinach
-when the bread is done toasting, slather each slice on one side with mayo
-put the ham on the bottom slice, as well as the spinach
-put 2nd slice mayo side down, then mayo the other side
-place turkey on sandwich
-put avocado slices on top
- place the bacon on the last slice of bread (mayo side)
-carefully flip the past piece of bread on
-Voila! Cut into quarters (or half if youre picky ;) ) and enjoy with a good drink like we did!

Hellooooo!

So, today in a grand feat of procrastination, we (Erica and I) created a blog. We say asinine things to each other and practically everyone we meet and figured we needed a place to record it. We also make awesome food for each other, day drink good beer and love my dog Zeke, Mr. Dorito Paws, the namesake of this here blog. An explanation as to this nickname will be posted later :) Anyways, welcome! Hopefully this lasts more then a week as I think its super awesome and can become as big and cool as Dooce or maybe even the almighty Pioneer Woman! ;)
